PAST LOVES

This is a page for dogs we have loved in the past. Dogs that meant alot to us but now have gone to the Rainbow Bridge. I don't think that I have any pictures of my first dog, Beau. Beau was a fawn boxer and he was such a nice boy. I can remember him very well even tho my family got him when I was about 2 years old. I feel really bad about the poor boy because he spent most of his life in a cage in the backyard. He mustn't have had a very good life and that I really regret but I was just a little kid and didn't know any better. I wonder who Beau will be waiting for at the Rainbow Bridge?

I got Toby when I was about 13 or 14 years old. I had been begging for a dog since Beau had died but my dad kept saying "no more pets" and wouldn't let me. When my mom came home with a Siamese cat, my dad said that if she could get a new cat, I could get a dog. Toby was a Heinze 57 but loved me unconditionally. I will always remember how he slept on my bed at night and would roll over and fall off. My dad would yell up the steps "are you OK?" and I would say that Toby just fell out of bed. When I left home, I should have taken Toby with me but I didn't and my parents took him to the SPCA. My neighbors were complaining about his barking - we didn't know about crates at the time. I wish I knew what happened to Toby but I think that I know. He was about 8 years old at the time.

Buttons was the dog that my husband had or should I say that his parents had when I met him. My Dave is a big guy, he use to lift weights so he is built like a brick shithouse and Buttons was a tiny miniature poodle. If that didn't look strange when Dave would walk Buttons. This big huge guy with this tiny little white dog! Buttons was very good for my mother-in-law as she was partially deaf and Buttons was her "hearing" dog. Buttons never liked me and would growl at me if I even touched a chair in the livingroom.

Shari was the first dog that Dave and I had as a married couple. We were married in June and I picked Shari up from the SPCA in September. I wanted a dog and Dave told me that I could only have a poodle so I found one. Shari was a good girl and was 4 years old when we picked her up. Someone had thrown her from a car and another family took her to the SPCA. When we had Mandy, Shari was soooo good with her and loved to lay next to her on the floor and get rubbed by the flailing arms of the baby. She was a good girl and lived to the ripe old age of 14 when we had to put her down because of cancer.

When Shari got old and deaf, I pleaded with Dave for another dog and finally he agreed. He saw an ad for Afghan puppies and asked if I wanted one - was I going to say no? I don't think so!! We went up to the breeders (who was just a backyard breeder) and saw the puppies they had and I picked out one that was different. I had only ever seen blonde afghans and I didn't want one like that. I was fortunate that the breeder had one that was different. We brought home Max who was called Blue Domino color because he had grey, brown and white in his coat. Never having owned an afghan, it was different. I had always heard that afghans were very dumb but I found out that this was wrong. They are very smart and very independent. We had a problem when Max was younger because he didn't want to come in the house and be crated when I went to work. Have you ever chased an afghan around a swimming pool? They are the second fastest dog in the world and can turn on a dime. We found a way to make him come in the house without chasing him and it worked for the rest of his life. Max died in his sleep one Thanksgiving morning when he was around 12 years old - old for an afghan. He was such a wonderful dog and I miss him alot.

We got Motli when Max was getting old. I had been pestering my husband for a new dog ever since Shari had been put to sleep but he is not a dog person and kept saying no. One day, I broke him down while at the mall and we went into the pet store. He said we could have a puppy so we went through all the puppies in the pet store and regected them all for this reason or that except for the American Eskimo. i had never heard of an American Eskimo so we decided to that the cute little bundle of fur home. I knew that you should never buy from a pet store but I didn't want to give my husband time to change his mind. We were thinking of a name for him and since my daughter was very much into heavy metal music, we were tossing around Motli Cru or Bon Jovi. For some reason, Motli Kru won. He was a good boy and he loved me! He was MY dog. I showed him in UKC and he got his conformation and obedience championship but he would never have gone any further in conformation because he didn't have the massive coat that was winning and he was very fine boned. For 9 years, he was my shadow, my buddy, my pal. He had bad teeth and one or two absessed so I took him to the vet to have his teeth taken care of. He died on the table. The thing that I hate the most is that I never got to say goodbye to him. I dropped him off and told him "See ya later, Mots", never thinking that he would die on the table. It has been since 1997 and I still miss him horribly!!

Muffin was Mandy's dog. Mandy bought her from Pat's Irish Kennels many years ago and while she was not show quality, she did very well in obedience and got her UCD. She was Mandy's shadow and lived for Mandy. She only had one litter in her life, her mate was Motli and one of their puppies was Margie. She was Mandy's friend, companion and shadow for 10 years, then one day in February 2000, she unexplainedly went into the street during the snow storm and got hit by a car. It was very quick, must have broken her neck or something because there was no blood. I will never forget Mandy sitting there for an hour trying to will life back into Muffin's lifeless body.

No, you are seeing right! This is not an eskie, but it is an honorary eskie. We fostered this young lady for two weeks and totally fell in love with her! She is a Shih Tzu that came from a SPCA in MA and we made a big mistake by placing her before we saw her. We should have waited because we would then have another dog, a little red one named Lucy! But I promised her to someone else and I stuck to my word. Lucy is doing well in her new home but we still miss her alot!

Margie was one of the puppies of Muffin and Motli and we kept her because she was the runt of the litter and so cute! She grew up to be the most vicious of our dogs because she wasn't socialized well. She was also very fat but she went on a diet when the vet said that it was lose weight or replace her knees. She lost about 9 lbs. by just eating her dog food and not the snacks that her daddy would give her. She was our baby and while she was even vicious to us, we loved her! She didn't like having her toenails cut so it took three people to cut her nails - one to hold her, one to cut her nails and one to feed the cheese. She actually enjoyed getting her toenails cut because of the cheese. She was a real "cheese dog". She died on September 9, 2000 of kidney failure. I miss her alot!

This is Ch. Miracle's Irish Misha. She turned 16 years old in February of 2005 and was the second eskie that we ever got. We bought her from Pat's Irish Kennels and had high hopes for her. She did get her championship but because she had a smooth coat, she didn't go any further. She was a wonderful dog but towards the end was quite demented, blind and deaf. She would pace the foor for hours and was very incontinent. She had a mini stroke in May 2005 and we had to put her to sleep as she couldn't walk any longer and her quality of life was no longer good. It was the toughest decision I ever had to make but it had to be done. She is now waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for us along with the Motli, Muffin and Margie. Misha, RIP, we will miss you!

Here is Gr. Ch. "PR" Pat's Irish Miracle Mistermine, our oldest male. Mister did very well in the show ring; he was #4 in the Top Ten for UKC in 1992! We were so very happy - he looked so beautiful. He was such a good boy and we loved him dearly but a dog can't live forever. We had to put Mister down in the summer of 2007 as he was in such bad shape and just couldn't get up any longer. He was 17 years old. He had a good life but we will miss him!! We will see you at the Rainbow Bridge, Mister Dog! Rest in Peace!

This is Maizie, "PR" Kort-Mar's Miracle Amazn Mystify. She is a wonderful young lady and we call her the "kitty dog" because at times she seems more cat than dog. Maizie is now 12 years old and has been sick for the past couple of months. We took her to the vet's but they don't seem to know what is wrong with her. She lives on a blanket in the living room and will occassionally get up and walk around. We feed her whatever she will eat which isn't alot and are just keeping her comfortable. We had to put Maizie down in January 2009 - her quality of life just wasn't there and we could do nothing for her. I miss her alot and always will but now she is in a better place. Healthy and free and running around with Motli and Mister.
